Recorded using live takes in a single day, CADUCOUS was independently released in 2002. It contains 10 songs that feature dynamic acoustic guitar riffs and storytelling lyrics, as in the solo acoustic efforts of Paul Simon, Patty Larkin, and John Mayer. In 2005 CADUCOUS's first track, "No Need," won national attention when it was featured on SBS INDIE SAMPLER, VOLUME 8, an anthology of indie artists including Amy Ray (Indigo Girls) and Michelle Malone. "No Need" was also selected to appear on Bazaar Cafe's MUSIC STEW, VOLUME 2, a compilation of San Francisco's best acoustic songwriting. Self-reliance is a theme that resurfaces throughout CADUCOUS. The album's title (pronounced "CA-du-cous") is defined this way: "Dropping off or disappearing early, as the calyx of a poppy, or the gills of a tadpole; shed at an early stage of development." Like transient spring petals or tadpole gills, the trappings of adolescence fall away, leaving an adult with a mature song, a sense of empowerment, and the awareness of permanent loss of innocence that comes with growing up. That rite of passage is embodied in CADUCOUS. Buy this CD.
