
For many moons, the horse character had no name, obvious gender, or race. While the last two are still basically true, the horse finally has a name: Stewball, after the champion racehorse of folksong lore. Young Stewball sometimes feels burdened by this hefty pedigree, but remains animated by the hope of attaining, if not glory, at least a personal best.
